Strengthening Rural Health: REC Funds Mobile Clinics for Women in Uttarakhand

REC Limited, a Maharatna CPSE in the Ministry of Power and a major NBFC, has provided financial support of Rs 6.01 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program for purchasing and operating five Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) in the state of Uttarakhand.

The initiative was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami in the presence of Hon’ble Health Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Dhan Singh Rawat; Secretary, Health Department, Dr. Rajesh Kumar; Director General of Health, Dr. Sunita Tamta; CPM of REC RO Dehradun, Shri Sunil Bisht; COO of CSC Academy, Shri Jha and other senior officials of REC and CSC Academy.

The MMUs deployed in partnership with CSC Academy will operate in three districts – Haridwar (2 units), Udham Singh Nagar (2 units) and Tehri Garhwal (1 unit) – with a special focus on remote and underprivileged communities. Equipped with the necessary diagnostic and treatment facilities, these units will operate six days a week and are designed to provide free primary healthcare services at the doorstep of the marginalized population.

In a unique step towards gender-sensitive care, one of the five MMUs is dedicated exclusively to women’s healthcare and will be staffed entirely by female medical professionals. This women’s mobile medical unit aims to meet the specific health needs of women in conservative and inaccessible areas.

The MMUs will work in close coordination with the Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) and the Uttarakhand State Health Department, ensuring synergy with government healthcare strategies and continuity of care. The project is an important part of the government’s vision of “Healthy Uttarakhand, Prosperous Uttarakhand”, and will contribute to last-mile healthcare delivery.

This deployment is part of REC Foundation’s larger initiative ‘Doctor at Your Doorstep’, which is already operational through mobile health clinics in other states including Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Punjab.

REC Limited remains steadfast in its mission to bridge the rural healthcare gap and empower lives through sustainable and impactful social responsibility initiatives.
